Girard-Perregaux Neo Constant Escapement Only Watch Edition

Girard-Perregaux, a loyal supporter of Only Watch, is delighted to unveil a unique piece created for the biennial charity auction. The Girard-Perregaux Neo Constant Escapement Only Watch Edition encompasses the brand’s highly inventive constant force technology. An evolution of the groundbreaking Constant Escapement L.M., a model that won the "Aiguille D’0r" at the GPHG (Grand Prix d’HorIogerie Genéve) back in 2013, this piéce unique incorporates numerous aesthetic and technical advancements and serves to showcase the Manufacture’s technical capabilities and legendary craftsmanship, all expressed in a neoteric form.

Constant force

A problem that afflicts most watches is that when fully wound the force from the spring barrel, ultimately serving the regulating organ, is excessive. This potentially impairs precision and can cause harm to the movement. Conversely, as the energy within the barrel diminishes, prior to the point of total exhaustion, the regulating organ receives insufficient force that again impairs precision.

The Constant Escapement addresses such problems, providing a uniform supply of force to the regulating organ and, by default, extraordinary rate stability. Moreover, the watch is a certified chronometer (COSC), providing independent assurance of its timekeeping performance.

Constant support

Girard-Perregaux has been a loyal supporter of Only Watch since 2007. The charity, founded in 2005 by Luc Pettavino, raises funds for research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. As part of its longstanding relationship with Only Watch, the Maison has created a series of one-off pieces that wonderfully demonstrate the company’s inventive mindset and design prowess.

Always inventive

On this occasion, Girard-Perregaux has masterminded a piece unique inspired by its famous Bridges collection. The Neo Constant Escapement Only Watch Edition is an up-to-the-minute evolution of a prototype first produced in 2008. The purple-hued silicium components sit in contrast with the warm unicoloured matte case. These shades first appeared on the aforementioned prototype and pay tribute to its groundbreaking composition. Dispensing with a conventional dial, the centrally positioned hour, minute and central seconds hands float above a sea of functional parts including the model's twin barrels and unique silicium blade.

The ultra-fine silicium blade buckles back and forth, serving the regulating organ with a uniform pulse of energy. The silicium escape spring, with its buckling blade positioned centre stage, is formed of a single piece of silicium. Beyond its functional role, this component is instantly recognisable and its symmetrical appearance resonates with Girard-Perregaux, a Maison synonymous with the Laureato‘s octagonal shaped bezel and the legendary Bridges.

Skeletonised dauphine-style hour and minute hands, featuring black nickel treatment, articulate the prevailing time and, courtesy of luminescent material, remain visible in restricted light. A golden track, positioned on the flange, is endowed with crisp black markings and incorporates prominent, luminescent hour markers that arc outwards, seemingly floating above the main dial area. The watch is presented on a black rubber strap featuring a fabric effect look, paired with a pink gold triple folding buckle.

The Girard-Perregaux Neo Constant Escapement Only Watch Edition brims with patented technology, showcasing the Manufacture‘s inventive spirit, a trait manifest since its origins in 1791.
