Between 1988 and 2000, Rolex produced the first automatic version of the Daytona, the reference 16520. The 40 mm sports chronograph relied on the Zenith El Primero calibre, extensively modified by Rolex and re-named the calibre 4030. Over the course of its 12 year lifespan, the reference 16520 was produced in 5 different series and available in stainless steel, yellow gold and stainless steel and gold.

The present L series, reference 16520 in stainless steel, left the Rolex manufacture in 1989 and has had little wear ever since. The dial features a suspending logo known as the "Floating Cosmograph", this configuration can be identified from several factors, however the two most significant clues would be the "Cosmograph" line being moderately lower than the four lines above, and the inverted "6" to the subsidiary hours.

World time is a complication that has a very long history in the many wonders of horology. Most recently in 2019 Patek Philippe had decided to no longer feature Hong Kong as one of the 24 cities on the chapter ring and all their models will sooner or later be replaced with Beijing instead.

Featuring a larger Calatrava case with a wonderful guilloché center field, the present watch is one of the best examples of the 5130 one can find. Furthermore it is accompanied with a white gold bracelet that is uncommon for the model.
