1800 S GG DAMASZENER by Sinn Spezialuhren Receives German Design Award 2023

Sinn Spezialuhren is honoured with the German Design Award: “Excellent Product Design 2023”. The 1800 S GG DAMSZENER receives the award that the highly esteemed panel of judges bestows only on products demonstrating a superb design. 

1800 S GG DAMASZENER – The watch made from Damascus steel

Where functionality defines design and every little detail serves to highlight the innovative technology at play, this is where Sinn Spezialuhren is at work. The case and crown of the 1800 S GG DAMSZENER are made from genuine forge-welded Damascus steel. In order to perfectly enhance the characteristic texture of Damascus steel – an organic pattern of alternating bands of light and dark – the one-piece dial and central part of the case were forged from a complete steel block rather than designed as separate components, as is customary. 

The result: the Damascus pattern on the dial continues across the entire case to create a fascinating and impressive whole. Thanks to the TEGIMENT Technology, the case is especially scratch-resistant. The additional Black Hard Coating highlights the pattern in a subtle, exquisite light and ensures good readability and a masculinelooking watch. Meticulously attached by hand, the 18-carat gold appliqués are the perfect complement to the coherent overall design of the 1800 S GG DAMASZENER, emphasising the unique elegance of this watch. These appliqués feature luminous paint, making it possible to read the 1800 S GG DAMASZENER in the dark – a design principle that is also apply to skeletonised hour, minute and second hands in 18-carat gold.

For the new 1800 S GG DAMASZENER, limited to just 100 pieces, genuine fire-welded Damascus steel was used, which, with its distinctive and unique grain, gives the noble watch its own unmistakable identity. In combination with the clear, masculine design language and hands and appliqués made of 18 ct gold, an exclusive watch was created that is an eye-catcher on every wrist.” This is how the jury honours the outstanding design of the 1800 S GG DAMASZENER in its statement.

Design quality unites both award-winning products

The German Design Award sets the highest standards for determining its award winners: during the course of an exacting nomination procedure, only those products with design qualities that demonstrably set them apart from their competition will be selected by the expert panels from the “Rat für Formgebung” (German Design Council) to participate in the competition.

More than 4,500 nominated products were submitted to the panel of judges. The international panel of judges is composed of design experts from industry, teaching and science as well as the design industry. All members of the panel of judges are recognised experts in their fields. During an assessment process, the panel makes a final, well-founded decision on the design quality of the presentations. As part of the evaluation process, the panel attaches great importance to criteria such as the degree of innovation, functionality and usability, technical quality and function, as well as durability and ergonomics.
