A watch with a single hand. When Manfred Brassler introduced this idea 25 years ago, many considered it a risk. Today, MeisterSinger stands for an attitude that, in the age of push notifications, deadlines, and measuring fractions of a second, is more relevant than ever: slowing down, letting things be, and giving the precious moment—the here and now—more weight.

How it all began

I can only admire my courage back then to launch a new watch brand,” says Brassler. “Looking back, there was certainly a healthy dose of naïveté involved. But perhaps that’s exactly what’s needed to create something that didn’t exist before?” he laughs.

At 48, Brassler founded MeisterSinger in Münster, Germany. The early years were marked by improvisation and intense personal commitment. Brassler ran the brand as a one-man show. 

Three days a week I visited retailers; the other days I designed and commissioned watches, wrote orders and invoices, packed parcels, and handled bank meetings,” he recalls. All of it was driven by immense enthusiasm, which allowed him to win over 70 retailers in Germany within a few months.

Rapid growth brought new challenges. I’m amazed at how quickly these 25 years have passed and how MeisterSinger has established itself as a distinctive and respected name in the world of mechanical watches.”

Design with maximum recognizability

A MeisterSinger is immediately recognizable—even from five meters away. This visual identity is the result of a perfectly thought-out and consistently executed design concept from day one.

The design roots lie in the world of original measuring instruments—because that is what a watch is: a tool for measurement. At a time when complexity was increasing not only in watchmaking, Brassler was strongly influenced by the Bauhaus philosophy. “I wanted to go in the opposite direction. I envisioned a watch whose simplicity would be unrivaled. Balance, clarity, and coherence—these remain my guiding principles to this day.”

A reduced, perfectly balanced form language, the characteristic needle hand with its instrument-typical long overhang, the finely graduated scale at the edge of the dial, and the always two-digit numerals came together 25 years ago to form a harmonious, unmistakable whole—and still define the look of the entire collection today.

Models like the №01, №03, and Perigraph have been part of the collection since the early years and remain largely unchanged.

The high design standards are recognized by major international design juries. Nearly 40 awards, including Red Dot, iF Design, German Design, and Good Design Awards, make MeisterSinger one of the most awarded watch brands in the world.

More than a single hand

A collection of only single-hand watches? What might initially seem limiting has for a quarter of a century been a stage for creative freedom. The brand consistently demonstrates how versatile this principle can be—both technically and aesthetically. Over 25 years, MeisterSinger single-hand watches have included models with day, date, and power reserve displays, second time zones, moon phases, striking hours, in-house movements—and for this year’s anniversary, an elegant jumping hour.

The challenge of reinventing the brand and its products year after year is still driven by immense enthusiasm. It has always been that way: when something fascinates me, it’s no longer work but pleasure, and always a matter of the heart,” Brassler explains.

Back to the future

What often surprises people: the single-hand principle is not an invention of MeisterSinger.

For centuries, mechanical watches used a single hand. Early pocket watches, table clocks, and large church and tower clocks displayed time with only one hand. Minute and second hands did not appear until the 18th century.

Together with the watch, our perception of time itself changed. Precision became the standard, efficiency the requirement, and minutes and seconds the units of measurement. MeisterSinger consciously takes a different approach today. The brand adopts the historical single-hand principle and translates it into the present: with the highest design standards, modern watchmaking, and contemporary precision.

The result is a watch that deliberately slows time without sacrificing accuracy. It combines the calm and clarity of early timepieces with today’s technical possibilities—and shows that progress is not always about adding more; sometimes it’s about returning to the essentials.

Many of our wearers describe it beautifully,” says Brassler. “They say, for example: ‘Just looking at my watch is calming.’ For me, that is the greatest validation. It’s not about having more time—it’s about experiencing it differently.”

The second generation

For its 25th anniversary, MeisterSinger stands not only for continuity but also for the future. Tanja Brassler, the second generation, is already fully involved in running the brand. As co-CEO, she has been shaping the brand for years—strategically, creatively, and conceptually. MeisterSinger is not a project for her but part of her own story.

I’ve known MeisterSinger from day one,” says Tanja Brassler. “My father had his office in our family home at the very beginning. I remember folding boxes as a child, thinking I was helping in an important way. Of course, I only understood what had truly been created much later.”

Coming from marketing, Tanja initially contributed her expertise in that area. Step by step, she grew deeper into the brand until she gained a comprehensive view. “At some point, I realized how much I enjoy shaping things, understanding the big picture, and taking responsibility.”

That Tanja chose to continue MeisterSinger out of her own conviction genuinely surprised me,” says Manfred Brassler. “Because there was never any expectation, it’s all the more wonderful to see how much conviction, clarity, sensitivity, and courage she brings to the role today. You can be assured that MeisterSinger is in the right hands with her.”

Tanja does not aim to overhaul the brand but to continue what has made MeisterSinger strong. At the same time, she observes closely, asks questions, develops existing structures, and creates new perspectives for the brand. With fresh impulses, a clear vision, and a keen sense of where careful change makes sense, she opens MeisterSinger to the future—without losing sight of its DNA.

Anniversary Highlights 2026

25 years of MeisterSinger must be celebrated. Accordingly, the brand is launching a true fireworks display of new releases in 2026. The highlight is a model that occupies a new top position within the collection: the Panthero Jumping Hour.

As a completely newly developed family of watches, the Panthero represents MeisterSinger’s highest standards—both in design and watchmaking. Its jumping hour reinterprets a classic complication in a distinctive way and clearly demonstrates the brand’s innovative spirit within the single-hand concept. The dial follows a self-contained, dynamically structured architecture, conveying both depth and order, giving the watch a strong, modern character.

Equally new and defining is the case of the Panthero Jumping Hour: meticulously crafted, powerfully proportioned, yet elegant in line. The sophisticated construction allows for an extremely narrow bezel, providing the dial—the face of the watch—with a perfect frame.

With the Panthero Jumping Hour, MeisterSinger demonstrates impressively in its anniversary year what the brand has stood for over the past 25 years: independence, boldness, and a commitment to rethinking time.
