Audemars Piguet - Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronographs 43mm in Ceramic and Pink Gold

Audemars Piguet launched two new 43 mm Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronographs. These two variations, which celebrate the collection’s 30th anniversary and join the references revealed at the beginning of the year, combine different materials including ceramic, titanium and gold. Available in two aesthetics and offering optimum ergonomics, these models are complemented with a calfskin leather strap with a textile effect and are powered by the Manufacture’s latest selfwinding chronograph movement, Calibre 4401.

Ergonomics and combination of materials

These two new 43 mm Royal Oak Offshore timepieces reinterpret the 44 mm 26405CE reference launched in 2020. Playing with materials including ceramic, pink gold and titanium to maximise contrasts and readability, these new models put the emphasis on ergonomics. Their design includes large polished chamfers on the edges, while the bezel as well as the screw-locked crown and chronograph push-pieces follow a slight curvature. The glareproofed sapphire crystal is slightly curved from 6 to 12 o’clock, seamlessly fitting the curved profile of the bezel.

Both timepieces feature ceramic components that followed a complex manufacturing process and were decorated with meticulous finishing techniques to meet the Manufacture’s quality requirements. Ceramic is composed of Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2) powder combined with a specific binder. The final colour appears once the material has been sintered at a temperature of approximately 1,000°C. The challenge at this stage lies in obtaining a perfectly homogenous colour. The various components are then pre-polished and pre-satin-brushed before being finished by hand, culminating in polished chamfers adjoining the satin-brushed surfaces.

Deep Blue or Bright Grey

The first model offers a deep contrast with its black ceramic case enhanced with a bezel, push-pieces and crown in blue ceramic. The ceramic components, decorated with Audemars Piguet’s emblematic hand finishing, are enriched with titanium push-piece guards and studs. The timepiece is adorned with a smoked blue Méga Tapisserie dial, whose deep blue colour progressively turns black towards the periphery. The dial encompasses three black counters horizontally positioned at 9, 6 and 3 o’clock and illuminated by white gold baton hour-markers and hands filled with luminescent coating accentuating legibility.

The second reference boasts a luminous aesthetic combining an 18-carat pink gold case with a bezel, bracelet studs and push-piece guards all crafted in titanium. Honed from black ceramic, the crown and push-pieces recall the black chronograph counters which stand out against the uniform grey Méga Tapisserie dial. The latter is enhanced by pink gold baton hour-markers and hands endowed with luminescent coating.

A contemporary calfskin interchangeable strap

These two 43 mm Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronographs are equipped with the interchangeable strap system introduced by Audemars Piguet in 2021 and their calfskin leather straps with textile effect add a touch of elegance and refinement. Matched to the colour of the dials, the straps, which were introduced for the first time in the collection at the beginning of the year, are edged with black stitching. Each model comes with a second black rubber strap that offers a sportive alternative.

A fully integrated chronograph

These two Royal Oak Offshore models are powered by Calibre 4401, the Manufacture’s latest selfwinding integrated chronograph movement endowed with a column wheel and the flyback function.

Unlike a regular chronograph, the flyback function allows the chronograph to be reset and restarted with a single press of the push-piece. The column wheel works in symbiosis with the vertical clutch. When the chronograph is started or stopped, the seconds hand responds immediately and smoothly. In addition, the push-pieces have been designed to feel smooth when pressed. When reset to zero, the hands on each of the counters instantly return to their vertical position, thanks to a patented mechanism. The movement is decorated with refined finishing techniques such as Côtes de Genève, circular graining, sunray brushing, circular satin and polished chamfers, all of which are visible through the sapphire caseback.
