Beda'a Eclipse

The Eclipse, Beda’a’s new chapter, has been nominated for the Challenge Prize at this year’s Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) – the beacon event of the watchmaking world, often described as the industry’s “Oscars” – to be held on 13 November.

Founded in Doha, Beda’a bridges cultures — blending Middle Eastern sensibility with Swiss Made precision. Lebanese designer Sohaib Maghnam, the brand’s creative director and CEO, shapes each creation with a distinctive aesthetic that draws on established horological codes yet ventures beyond them. This dialogue between regional inspiration and traditional craftsmanship defines Beda’a’s unique voice in today’s watchmaking landscape.

Beyond the Eclipse’s distinctive design language, the nomination recognizes the brand’s ability to express creativity, innovation, and technical depth at an accessible price point – the very spirit of the Challenge Prize.

Time told differently

Inspired by the rare natural phenomenon from which it takes its name, Eclipse reimagines the act of reading time from a minimalist yet striking perspective. Framed by a 37 mm stainless-steel case, a “celestial shield” conceals most of the dial, revealing only the essentials: a sweeping hour aperture, a floating minutes indicator, and a discreet 10-second counter.

The shield itself floats just beneath the sapphire crystal, creating a tactile connection and a play of light evocative of an eclipse’s corona. Beneath this architectural dial lies the Sellita SW300 automatic movement, visible through a sapphire case back. With its 8.1 mm profile and refined lug construction – each lug individually finished and fitted to the concave case via invisible screws – Eclipse balances visual presence with ergonomic comfort.

The Challenge category: creativity and accessibility

Introduced by the GPHG to spotlight watches retailing at CHF 3,000 or less, the Challenge category celebrates creative audacity, lateral thinking, and technical ingenuity within an attainable price range. Its goal is to encourage independent and emerging brands to demonstrate horological legitimacy and imagination beyond traditional boundaries.

In this spirit, Eclipse embodies a distinctly modern vision of watchmaking – minimalist yet expressive, culturally rooted yet globally resonant. Its nomination among the six finalists for 2025 underscores Beda’a’s growing stature and its commitment to offering originality and refinement on accessible terms.

“Recognition that goes beyond the object”

This nomination is incredibly meaningful for us,” says Sohaib Maghnam, Creative Director and CEO of Beda’a. “Eclipse was born from a desire to translate a simple, universal phenomenon – the eclipse – into a watch that feels poetic, balanced, and pure. To see that vision acknowledged by the GPHG jury, among some of the most respected names in the field, is deeply rewarding. It’s recognition that goes beyond the object itself – it’s about creativity, discipline, and the courage to do things differently.
