Blancpain - Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Day Date 70s

Three years after the creation of the Fifty Fathoms, the world’s first modern diving watch which debuted in 1953, Blancpain launched the alternative style of the Bathyscaphe. Over time, Blancpain evolved the Fifty Fathoms and the Bathyscaphe in parallel with a succession of new models in each collection.

During the 1970s, Blancpain evolved its line of Bathyscaphe models, introducing a few diving watches with new aesthetic codes. These models featured a silvered dial ring with rectangular indexes and Arabic numerals radially arrayed every five minutes and windows for the day of the week and date at 3 o’clock.

The dial of the new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Day Date 70s, presented at Baselworld 2018, captures the look of the 70s model with its day of the week and date indications at 3 o’clock.

As with the vintage piece, this new model has a subtle graduated gray colouring, darker on the outer perimeter and infused with lighter tones toward the centre, thus creating the perception of a larger dial size with enhanced readability.

While the aesthetics of this new timepiece draw upon history, the watch takes advantage of
Blancpain’s latest technical advances. Stare resistant to 30 bar (300 metres / 1,000 feet), the 43 mm satin-finished case is equipped with a unidirectional bezel featuring a ceramic insert whose indexes are filled with Liquidmetal.

The movement of choice is the self-winding Calibre 1315DD beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and offering a power reserve of 120 hours.

Limited to 500 pieces, the new timepiece is available with four different wristbands: a vintage-style antiqued leather, sail-canvas or NATO strap, as well as a beautifully refined steel bracelet.

The Blancpain Bathyscaphe Day Date 70s (ref. 5052-1110-63A) has a price of Euro 12,000 with strap or Euro 14,500 with the steel bracelet with folding clasp. blancpain.com
