Chopard Alpine Eagle Sunburnt

Firmly committed to respecting traditions and cultures, Chopard is dedicating a special edition of its Alpine Eagle collection to Australia's rich heritage. Designed in collaboration with the artist Shaun Daniel Allen (Shal), the Alpine Eagle Sunburnt features a "Sunburnt Red" dial inspired by the beauty of Australian landscapes. Measuring 41 millimetres in diameter, this timepiece issued in a 20-piece limited edition is crafted from Chopard's exclusive ultra-resistant and highly luminous Lucent SteelTM, made with a recycling rate of at least 80%. It beats to the rhythm of the Chopard 01.01-C movement, whose high-precision timing is authenticated by chronometer certification. In keeping with the Maison’s philanthropic commitments, part of the proceeds from sales of these models will be donated to the Ngunya Jarjum Aboriginal Corporation.

A red dial graced with a warm gradient

A new colour is making its debut on the dial of the watches in the Alpine Eagle collection: like Aletsch Blue, Bernina Grey or Absolute Black, “Sunburnt Red” is inspired by natural landscapes. While the dials in the Alpine Eagle collection usually refer to the Alps, those adorning this special edition are inspired by the rich ochre hues of the Australian soil. For the first time in the collection, Chopard is offering a dial featuring a colour gradient: the shades become darker around the edges, reflecting the effects of light and shade that the sun reflects on the Australian landscape at different times of day.

On this textured dial with its radiating pattern evoking the eye of an eagle, the indication of the hours, minutes and seconds provides an elegant and legible contrast through rhodium-plated hour-markers and hands enhanced with Grade X1 SuperLumiNova® to ensure optimal visibility even in the dark. Positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock, the date is clearly indicated on a disc matching the dial and thus ensuring perfect overall discretion and harmony.

A sustainable material: Lucent Steel™

Since the launch of the collection in 2019, Alpine Eagle has been distinguished by its choice of responsibly sourced materials. The large 41 mm-diameter case, as well as the bracelet of this new Alpine Eagle model are entirely made of Lucent Steel™. In keeping with the responsible approach to which the Manufacture is committed, this metal exclusive to Chopard is made from at least 80% recycled material. Thanks to its anti-allergenic composition, it has properties comparable to surgical steel, making it highly dermo-compatible. This alloy is moreover 50% more resistant to abrasion than conventional steels and has a unique hardness. Finally, thanks to a crystal structure boasting superior homogeneity, its purity enables uniquely shimmering light effects.

Mechanical precision

In keeping with the Manufacture's commitment to certified precision, the Chopard 01.01-C self-winding movement at the heart of the Alpine Eagle watches and visible through a transparent sapphire caseback adorned with special motifs is developed in its own watchmaking workshops and certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. The word "Chronometer" on the dial is a reminder of this label of precision and excellence.

When fully wound, the mechanism enjoys a 60-hour power reserve. Constantly seeking to meet the highest standards of precision, the watchmakers have also equipped this movement with a stop-second function enabling the user to set the time to the nearest second.

A unique collaboration in support of the Ngunya Jarjum Aboriginal Corporation

In shaping the identity of this model issued in an exclusive 20-piece limited edition, Chopard called on First Nations artist Shaun Daniel Allen (Shal). Known for his unique and innovative style blending contemporary art, tattooing and music, Shal's work is distinguished by a wealth of textures and vibrant colours.

The idea was to merge Swiss watchmaking expertise with Shal's artistic vision to create a watch that would be both a work of art and an instrument for measuring time. True to the inspiration that the Alpine Eagle collection draws from Nature, the Sunburnt Limited Edition model features remarkable artistic details, such as the caseback adorned with the artist's emblematic abstract motifs, as well as the sustainable wooden case hand-painted with tranquil lines evoking the course of rivers.

The collaboration between Chopard and Shal has resulted in the creation of a watch that transcends the boundaries between traditional watchmaking and contemporary art, making it a prized collector's item.

Throughout its history, Chopard has always associated the success of its creations with a commitment to improving the common good. With the unveiling of this new Alpine Eagle Sunburnt Limited Edition, Chopard has pledged to dedicate a portion of the profits from sales of this watch to funding the programmes of the Ngunya Jarjum Aboriginal Corporation.

Ngunya Jarjum was established in 1995 by Bundjalung Elders and community members to address the crisis and need for more Aboriginal kinship and foster carers. Shal saw first-hand how the organisation was badly impacted by the 2022 eastern Australia flood disasters. He said “Children are our future! Seeing Ngunya Jarjum suffer from the floods and knowing how much they do for the community on Bundjalung country was heartbreaking. Cleaning out their building and seeing the community working together was something I won’t forget anytime soon. Ngunya Jarjum work to support families to nurture their children, raise them on country, and preserve our culture and strength into the future. I want to see Bundjalung families thriving and supported!

The Alpine Eagle collection

Devised by three generations of men in the Scheufele family, the Alpine Eagle is a modern reinterpretation of the St. Moritz, the first watch creation by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele (now Co-President of Chopard) in the late 1970s.

With its pure and assertive design, Alpine Eagle further enriches this heritage with powerful natural inspiration. Alpine Eagle is a token of refined and resolutely contemporary elegance characterised by a round case with stylised raised sides, a crown engraved with the compass rose, a bezel with eight functional indexed screws, a textured dial with deep hues and luminescent indications, as well as an integrated metal bracelet.

Thanks to its independence and the integration of its various professions, Chopard performs all the production and assembly stages of the collection within its own watchmaking workshops, from movement to bracelet and including components as well as the case.
