Frederic Jouvenot Moon Deity Sîn

In the new Frederic Jouvenot Moon Deity Sîn, the watchmaker has once again broken the mould of the conventional. The multi-layered dial is not like anything seen before and there is but a single gold hand, for the hours, but elsewhere little is familiar to the eye, and there is plenty to confound the curious admirer.

A three-dimensional display of day and night

Sîn is dedicated to Mesopotamian god of the moon, and it charts the passage of time and the sky above across the span of 24 hours, of day and night, and of sunrise and sunset which he has displayed to wonderful effect using an ingenious system of opposing rotating sun and moon orbs and a play on the eye.

Whilst displaying time in a vaguely recognizable 12-hour format via the short gold hour hand, which has been mounted so as to hover as it travels, and the signature minutes by way of rotating central gold dome, the beautiful little rose gold sun orb and the opposing white gold moon complete a circuit of the dial every 24 hours with the sun appearing from behind the cleverly designed split level dial at 6am and then disappearing again at 6pm, when the moon emerges and takes over for the following 12 hours.

To make the most of this engaging spectacle, the bezel and crystal are one piece of sapphire, giving yet another unique aspect to the Sîn, and ensuring that every one of the myriad details of the dial are exposed. The Frederic Jouvenot Moon Deity Sîn is cased in black DLC titanium and features its distinctive long skeletonised lugs.

Turn the watch over and a sapphire crystal caseback reveals the immaculate detail and hand finishing on the in-house manufacture manual movement within. The black gold screw balance wheel which is the heart of the movement pulsing at a relatively leisurely 28,800 vph, the screw heads and beveled edges of the plates and bridges polished to a mirror finish and the surfaces decorated with Côtes de Genève.
