Furlan Marri Disco Volante

Get ready to groove back in time with Furlan Marri’s permanent Disco Volante line, the brand’s latest addition to its Mechanical collection. The new lineup features three striking models that marry Art Deco elegance with contemporary flair, adding a vibrant touch of 80s disco to your wrist. Originating in the late 1930s, Disco Volante (Italian for flying saucer) designs are defined by their sleek round cases and large, yet invisible lugs concealed beneath the case. Moreover, the crown is often integrated into the case to avoid distorting the fluid shape. These timepieces have evolved over the decades in the hands of other watchmaking greats, maintaining a retro charm with jewelry-like finesse, and now, Furlan Marri is breathing new life into this classic with a fresh, modern twist.

Furlan Marri’s modern vision

Andrea Furlan and Hamad Al Marri have reimagined the Disco Volante with a keen eye on modern trends. Sporting a 38 mm case – more prominent than the vintage 36 mm – this watch perfectly blends classic and contemporary. The rounded shapes and curved bezel add a touch of elegance, while the intricate, four-part dial with sharp, meticulously crafted angles showcases Furlan Marri’s dedication to detail. The dial is balanced with applied hour markers at 12, 3 and 9 o’clock, double-printed indicators and text, and a subdial displaying the small seconds at 6 o’clock. Both circles surrounding the hour and minute and small second indications are enhanced by a different shade of Super-LumiNova depending on the reference, creating a luminous signature.

Furlan Marri unveils three two-tone dials for its Disco Volante collection that are sure to turn heads:

  • Havana Disco: A beautiful salmon hue offset by brown tones, reminiscent of the first Havana Salmon Mechaquartz watch. The Old Radium Super-LumiNova (C5) gives it a vintage vibe by day and a yellow-green glow by night.
  • Disco Celeste: Dressed in shades of blue and white, this model comes alive at night with the powerful BGW9 Super-LumiNova (one of the most potent at 95% of C3), shining in sky blue/white tones.
  • Disco Verde: This model, featuring a green and cream dial with Old Radium Super-LumiNova, is a nod to classic elegance.

The heartbeat: Caliber 7001 and the story of Peseux

At the core of these watches is the manually wound Peseux 7001 movement, a hallmark of Swiss watchmaking excellence. First marketed in 1971 and named after that year, this ultra-thin, manually wound caliber is known for its reliability and precision. The Fabrique d’ébauches de Peseux SA, known today as Peseux SA, was founded in the Neuchâtel region in 1923. After remaining independent for many years, the Manufacture joined forces with ETA in 1985. Caliber 7001 is one of Peseux SA’s most renowned calibers. It is the first caliber designed according to watchmaking tradition but with industrialized mass production in mind. Originally created in the 1950s, it inherited the very traditional design of earlier movements but incorporated the highly innovative technology of the 1950s and 1960s.

Furlan Marri’s vision of the Peseux 7001

At just 2.5 mm thick, Caliber 7001 is the ideal choice for this project, given the watchmakers’ desire to produce a watch as thin as the first release. Thus, the movement fits perfectly into the new 38 mm diameter case. This manually wound watch revives the Art Deco style, featuring design codes from the 1930s to 1950s but with an intermediate diameter. Meanwhile, Furlan Marri has meticulously redesigned the bridges, incorporating hand-finished, diamond-polished edges and a crown wheel and screws that are black-polished and chamfered around the stones. All the beveling is done by hand in Geneva (Meyrin, Switzerland) under the watchful eye of Furlan Marri technical manager Sébastien Rousseau.

Timeless craftsmanship, modern elegance

Furlan Marri’s Disco Volante is more than just a watch – it’s a statement piece that captures the essence of evolving fashion from the 30s to the 80s. Whether you’re a vintage aficionado or a modern style maven this is a must-have for your collection. Get ready to dance through time with Furlan Marri’s Disco Volante. Your wrist has never looked so good.

These three references will join Furlan Marri’s Mechanical line as the new permanent Disco Volante collection. The retail price is CHF 2,500 (excl. tax) / USD 2,780 (excl. tax). The first batch is planned for this year, and pieces will be reproduced as required, subject to movement availability / subject to available movement stock.
