Furlan Marri x CLE - Sahra Edition
Furlan Marri Editions are collaborative retailer editions, created in partnership with carefully selected boutiques around the world. Each Edition tells its own story while reflecting the identity and heritage shared with the brand.
The Edition CLE is the latest chapter in this series of collaborations: available exclusively at CLE: The Gallery in Riyadh from November 25th, it will later be offered through Furlan Marri’s website from December 3rd. Limited to 750 pieces, it will never be reproduced in the future.
CLE: The Gallery
Founded in London in 2013 by Saudi entrepreneur Yasmine Al Shathry, CLE began as a luxury concierge service dedicated to collectors across Saudi Arabia and the GCC. What started as a bespoke service quickly evolved into a bridge between regional communities and the world of fine luxury. Today, through its physical space CLE: The Gallery, the brand continues to redefine modern luxury with a human and inclusive approach.
The partnership between CLE and Furlan Marri was born from a mutual desire to create stories that bring people together through design and emotion. This shared commitment to community and authenticity made the collaboration a natural fit.
Dial Inspiration
Inspired by the timeless beauty and vastness of Saudi Arabia’s deserts, this special edition pays tribute to Furlan Marri’s second land of origins. It embodies the Kingdom’s quiet strength and singular spirit. Its golden-brown tones evoke the brightness of dunes under the midday sun, while deeper shades recall the distinctive hues of traditional Najdi architecture. Together, they form a palette that embodies both resilience and hospitality, two values deeply rooted in Saudi culture.
The dial brings this inspiration to life through carefully considered details. At its center, lacquered sand dunes capture the quiet movement of time, flowing like wind over the desert. The Hindi-Arabic numerals honor the region’s intellectual heritage, while half-spherical indexes and a domed outer ring echo the harmonious forms of Islamic architecture.
The coordinates engraved on the caseback point to a place that captures the true essence of Riyadh and its desert. It’s not a random location – it was chosen for its striking beauty. The dial reflects the dunes and tones of this landscape as seen from above.
Through this dialogue between culture and design, the CLE Edition distills the soul of the Kingdom into a single dial.
The story of Mechaquartz
Our mechaquartz line draws inspirations from François Borgel, one of the most renowned case makers of his time. In 1931, he patented the first waterproof screw-down case back with gasket. He also supplied many of the cases behind today’s most iconic vintage chronographs. These were known for refined details, including engraved Tasti Tondi pushers, often seen on chronographs from the 1940s and 1950s.
Mechaquartz movements were first invented in Switzerland and Japan during the quartz crisis of the late 80's. In Switzerland, Piguet and LeCoultre were among the first to develop this specific module, while in Japan, it was Seiko. At the time, watchmakers wanted to combine the reliability of quartz with the tactile feel and sweep of a mechanical chronograph, bringing back the emotional dimension of watchmaking.
The choice of Mechaquartz
At Furlan Marri, we’ve chosen mechaquartz movements not as a shortcut, but as a deliberate choice. It gives us the freedom to focus on complex case construction, attractive design and refined finishing, without compromising on everyday practicality or price. We aim to reflect these stories through designs in which every detail bridges the past and the present. This choice is rooted in our DNA, as mechaquartz was the movement with which we introduced Furlan Marri through our Kickstarter launch.
This is made possible by the Seiko VK64, a compact and thin movement that creates room for detail, proportion and storytelling. Known for its reliability and robustness, it offers an instant and precise reset of the chronograph hand, and a soft, satisfying pusher feel, similar to a mechanical chronograph.
Crafted with care
The level of finishing of this timepiece, including brushed and polished surfaces, applied indexes, curved hands, and multi-textured dials, is typically found in far more exclusive watches. By working with a mechaquartz movement, we are able to focus on the subtle details that truly set each chronograph apart, offering an elevated experience at an accessible level.
