Singapore, November 2023 – The launch of Sincere Fine Watches’ latest concept boutique, SHH in Kuala Lumpur, spotlights the intricacies and marvels of independent watchmaking, delivering a uniquely luxurious retail experience tailored for Malaysia’s most discerning watch connoisseurs.

Spanning across a dual-storey duplex, this pioneering concept store represents Sincere's debut as a multi-concept space. On the ground floor, discover a luxurious boutique that showcases the best of what horology has to offer, while the upper level introduces an innovative dining experience featuring seasonal culinary delights curated by renowned chefs.

In collaboration with Sincere Fine Watches, Greubel Forsey is today releasing a unique variation of its recently honed down, 41.5mm in diameter Balancier Convexe S². The 6-piece Greubel Forsey Balancier Convexe S² SHH Edition is the smallest limited edition of the Balancier Convexe S² to date, and comes in a unique shade of Khaki Green. Edgy, assertive and sporty, this slightly muted shade has been carefully selected, enabling the timepiece to be highly unique yet also extremely versatile – making this the pinnacle of quiet luxury.

A Symbol of Growth and Abundance

In the leadup to the grand opening of the largest SHH boutique to date, Sincere Fine Watches wanted to create a series of SHH Editions to commemorate this milestone. They then reached out to Greubel Forsey to conceive a special edition of the Balancier Convexe S², a creation at the very highest level of fine watchmaking. Sincere wanted a commemorative timepiece that went beyond being solely aesthetically pleasing – it also had to have added meaning and value in its conceptualisation. Signifying growth, renewal and abundance, the specially created shade of Khaki Green primarily featured on this SHH Edition, combined with the high chronometric performance of this timepiece, is the perfect tribute to mark SHH’s expansion into the Malaysian market – and its debut as a multi-concept space.

The Khaki Green of the dial forms the perfect background for the curves of the split-level movement. The frosted finish of the horizontal mainplate and the escapement platform diffuses a gentle light – and minimal reflections, making it that much easier to discern each of the mirror-polished components on the dial: the barrel at 11 o’clock, the gear train at 4 o’clock, and the large inclined balance wheel at 7 o’clock.

The markers have been designed with the same aim of absolute readability in mind. The two large skeletonised, hand-polished central hands are tipped with white Super-LumiNova, while the small seconds hand at 8 o’clock is filled with white lacquer. As a counterpoint, the two large bridges supporting the gear train and the large balance wheel have been coated in black PVD.

Amidst the relatively muted colours found across the Greubel Forsey Balancier Convexe S² SHH Edition, a distinctive point of colour is observed at the power reserve zone, with the power indicator arrow and “0” indication highlighted in a shade of orange that stands out, yet striking a perfect balance with the rest of the components. This contrast allows the power indicator to be easily observable at a glance, yet maintains the coherent design of the watch, whilst asserting the ultra-contemporary, daring nature of the Balancier Convexe S² as never before.

The Greubel Forsey Balancier Convexe S² SHH Edition embodies the new direction taken by the Atelier based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, with the vision to serve as harbingers of the space it intends to occupy in terms of technique and style for the next 20 years.

An Iconic Profile

The case of the Greubel Forsey Balancier Convexe S² SHH Edition retains the legendary convex profile – a profile that has become synonymous with Greubel Forsey in recent years. Since it was first introduced in 2019, this case profile has won over collectors for its originality, comfort and cutting-edge ergonomics. The entire case is double-curved, on both the front and back. On the back, the curve hugs the wrist, offering total comfort. On the front, the convex profile of the flange plunges along the vertical axis of the piece, at 12 and 6 o'clock. This dynamic form promises infinite creative possibilities.

Along these two cardinal points, the dial appears to sink away beneath the sapphire crystal, revealing an unprecedented amount of space beneath the latter. Greubel Forsey has made full use of it – prominently featuring the collection's signature large balance wheel in the lower quarter. Taking full advantage of the space available, it is inclined at 30°, and appears to be suspended in mid-air from the openworked bridge that sports a satin finish and hand-polished bevelling.

Time at your Fingertips

At the apex, by contrast, the hour and minute hands sit so high, they seem to be virtually touching the crystal – as though you could reach out and touch the passage of time.

Meanwhile the structure of the openwork ‘arch bridge’ reveals the inner workings of the movement. The bridges, elevations, levels, contrasts, relief, and vanishing points are clearly inspired by those found in contemporary megacities – a natural habitat of Greubel Forsey collectors, from the skyline to the waterfront.

Encapsulating the Greubel Forsey Spirit

This urban landscape is housed in a case whose proportions have been redesigned to make it not only smaller but also slimmer. It’s been honed down to a diameter of 41.5mm: a decrease of over ten percent, making the timepiece smaller and thus lighter and ideal for daily wear, cut from a single piece of titanium and borne on a textured rubber strap.

To make this possible, Greubel Forsey’s Balancier Convexe S² had to undergo a complete redesign to ensure the new version remained faithful to the original ethos. The profile of the case had to be revised on the dial side and on the rear, while the movement has been slimmed down considerably. The new and distinctive barrel cover design echoes the rotation of the barrel itself, which provides a guaranteed 72-hour power reserve.

The Greubel Forsey Balancier Convexe S² SHH Edition will come with 2 rubber straps that are textured in relief – one in Green and another in Black – along with a GF logo engraved titanium folding clasp. The 6-piece limited edition will be available at the SHH Boutique, #B2M-202 of The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, and Sincere Fine Watches, #01-12 of Takashimaya S.C. – with a retail price of SGD$364,500 (including GST).
