IWC - Portugieser Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition “150 Years”

Following our introduction to the special Jubilee collection that IWC will be unveiling at the upcoming Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) watch fair in Geneva, we here go into more detail presenting one of the most exclusive novelties, the Portugieser Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition “150 Years”.

Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the new IWC-manufactured hand-wound 94805 calibre combines a constant-force tourbillon with a perpetual moon phase display that only needs to be adjusted by 1 day after 577.5 years. Beating at a frequency of 2,5 Hz (18,000 vph), it offers a power reserve of 4 days. It bears a medallion with the Jubilee insignia “150 Years”.

The patented constant force mechanism transmits completely even impulses to the escape wheel. In conjunction with the tourbillon, which compensates for the negative influences of gravity on the watch’s oscillating system, it contributes to an exceptionally high level of precision.

Housed in a precious platinum case with a diameter of 45 mm and 13.5 mm thick, the white dial comes with a lacquered finish and blued hands.

To obtain its appealing and uniform look, each dial must be coated with up to 12 layers of high-quality lacquer, flat-polished, brushed and then imprinted several times.

The prominent tourbillon aperture at 9 o’clock is visually balanced by the moon phase display at 1 o’clock and the 96-hour power reserve indication between 4 and 5 o’clock.

Available in an exclusive limited edition of 15 pieces and fitted with a with black alligator leather strap, the IWC Portugieser Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition “150 Years” (ref. IW590202) has a retail price of Euro 255,000. iwc.com
