Jacob & Co. The Godfather Writing Instruments

Jacob & Co. introduces two fresh new plot twists to The Godfather legend: a red fountain pen and a charcoal gray rollerball. The body, cap, pin and case pay tribute to The Godfather's icons – a rose, a bullet, a revolver barrel and the iconic puppeteer poster art.

Limited to just 499 pieces, the fountain pen and the rollerball follow up on The Opera Godfather Musical Watch, which combines the world of ultra-high-end watchmaking with the breathtaking romanticism and complexity of a mechanical musical – a vibrant tribute to The Godfather as a masterpiece of cinema and to Jacob & Co.'s dedication to excellence.

The Godfather pen collection is a new vessel channeling the inspiration Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather provided Jacob & Co. The collection is comprised of a red celluloid fountain pen with 18k rose gold nib and a black rollerball pen. Both are housed in a dedicated black case with a red leather cover, gilded hinges and printings all around.

Their celluloid body is enhanced with rose gold-plated silver trims, a plaque with The Godfather logo, complete with the puppeteer strings from the original book cover, later to be used for the movie poster. The famous red rose is also featured, with red enamel petals, and acts as the cap clip. The lower finial, which is the end of the pen, takes the shape of a bullet. Six more of them are inserted in the revolver barrel which acts as the upper finial, the cap top.

This part also contains a unique mechanism called the bullet chamber. This exclusive system pushes out one bullet tip after the other from the clicking revolver barrel that is the pen's cap. Silver and gold are once again called upon to craft these symbolic components and enhancements.

The making of a collection

In 2019, Jacob & Co. entered into an agreement with Paramount pictures and gained the right to use and deploy The Godfather franchise into its own collections. The first result of this inspiring partnership was the Opera Godfather, a musical, high complication timepiece of striking design. It plays The Godfather's main theme on a music box integrated into the rotating movement with triple-axis tourbillon.

Several subsequent versions were created, among which the Opera Godfather Minute Repeater and several limited editions with extensive diamond and baguette diamond-setting. The Godfather Pen collection is a new extension of the rich graphic and symbolic possibilities contained within The Godfather.

The making of a movie

As we're being reminded by the ongoing TV series The Offer, which offers unique insight into the writing, producing, shooting and release of The Godfather, the movie and its crew faced great adversity including from the Italian New York mob.

Yet the original best-selling novel by Mario Puzo went on to be turned into one of the most acclaimed and highest-grossing films of all times. The Godfather pen collection is a tribute to The Godfather's imagery, symbols and authors Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola, who laid out the ground for the accomplishment of this story. And the one lesson that can be taken from it is that the pen is mightier than the sword, or bullets and intimidation for that matter.

The making of a pen

Crafted in Italy, The Godfather pen collection benefits from the vast know-how and experience of premium pen-manufacturer Montegrappa. The firm founded in 1912 is based in Bassano del Grappa, at the very foot of the Alps in the Veneto region.

Montegrappa is relentlessly dedicated to crafting the most elegant, comfortable, balanced and refined writing instruments. It houses some of the best and most skilled workers in the pen-making industry. Jacob & Co. called upon their respected expertise for the making of this legendary, highly collectible pen collection.
