Konstantin Chaykin "Matroskin" Limited Edition

Konstantin Chaykin was inspired to create his new Wristmon by Russia's most popular cartoon character.

In the spring of 2025, in a survey timed to coincide with Russian Animation Day, respondents were asked to choose their favorite cartoon character. The majority cast their votes for Matroskin the Cat, who surpassed Cheburashka and Domovyonok (Little House Elf) Kuzya in popularity.

It is symbolic that the year 2025 marked the beginning of a milestone collaboration between the Konstantin Chaykin manufacture and the Soyuzmultfilm animation studio. This partnership resulted in the creation of the Matroskin Wristmon—a watch just as charismatic as its literary and animated prototype, which was conceived in the early 1970s by the writer Eduard Uspensky.

A positive attitude under any circumstances

The master watchmaker set about embodying the image of the striped talking cat in a wristwatch with the energy, passion, and ingenuity characteristic of both himself and Matroskin. Every design detail contributes to the character, making the new Wristmon as close as possible to the beloved cartoon figure. One such detail is the cat's whiskers, rendered using the "guilloché" relief decoration technique. They extend from the dial onto the bezel of the case—a first for the Wristmon collection.

The shape of the steel case captures the spirit of animal-themed watches: the shape of the upper lugs is stylized to resemble Matroskin’s cat ears. As with other similar models, the design utilizes a single crown—making the silhouette cleaner and more natural.

The "Matroskin" Wristmon is particularly true to the cartoon character because the cat's face on the dial is constantly changing. The character's eyes serve as the hour and minute indicators. A "moon smile"—a signature design element—adds dynamism to the watch's appearance. Another important nuance is the exclusive collectible strap, which Konstantin Chaykin developed specifically for this model. He decided to make it out of leather, but instead of a classic solid color, he made it striped—any other choice is hard to imagine.

Just the way Matroskin likes it: high-end mechanical watchmaking

The "Matroskin" watch is powered by the self-winding caliber K.18-27, built on the basis of the G200 movement. This is a high-grade automatic movement with a 68-hour power reserve, supplied to the Konstantin Chaykin manufacture in a customized execution. The Joker-indication module is fully developed and produced by the Konstantin Chaykin manufacture in strict accordance with the canons of fine watchmaking. Traditional Haute Horlogerie techniques are applied to the finishing of its components.
