Nivada Grenchen Chronoking Mecaquartz 'Salmon'

The new Chronoking Mecaquartz ‘Salmon Dial’ sets the accent on chic in ‘sport-chic’ with a watch face hue that gives its chrono cred a fresh, elegant twist. Attractively priced under 500 euros, Guillaume Laidet’s latest brainchild is perfectly timed for the afterglow of a post-summer tan.

  • Nivada Grenchen, born in 1926, built a peerless reputation pioneer automatic watches, chronographs and divers. In 2018, watchmaking entrepreneur Guillaume Laidet acquired the dormant brand and began reissuing iconic models, re-combining its distinctive DNA with great looks and exceptional value – for a growing community of collectors, watch lovers and fans.
  • May 2022: In line with this commitment to great value for money, Nivada Grenchen launches its first mecaquartz model, the Datomaster, priced at 437.95/USD 479 – a resounding success.
  • February 2023: The Chronoking Mecaquartz ‘Black’, limited to 150 pieces is launched at the same price point– and almost immediately sold out.
  • 12 June 2024: The Chronoking Mecaquartz ‘Salmon Dial,’ also limited to the pre-order period (three weeks only, from 12 to 4 July 2024), offers 13 strap options. Quick, while there’s still time!

On Wednesday, 12 June, Nivada Grenchen unveils its latest interpretation of purpose-driven watch design and engineering combined with sophisticated elegance: the Chronoking Mecaquartz ‘Salmon Dial.’ This fresh take on the legendary chrono tool watch features a distinctive salmon-hued sunburst dial, as perfect a fit for the wrist on a white-knuckle adventure as it is peeking from a dinner jacket sleeve.

The intense white Super-LumiNova® markers contrast sharply the dial’s subtle shimmer, enhancing the watch’s cool aesthetic – a vibe accentuated by the chronograph's second hand sweeping across the watch face. The 38 mm stainless steel case and black aluminum bezel, with bold numerals, underscore its cred and functionality, while the soft rose dial brings out an unexpected depth that captures light beautifully. Underneath the beauty, a quartz movement for precise timekeeping and a mechanical chronograph module for that genuine timekeeping  feel.

Quartz precision, mechanical soul

Assembled in Switzerland, the Nivada Chronoking features the tried and true Time Module TMI VK63A mecaquartz movement. Blending quartz accuracy and reliability with mechanical beauty and charm, this movement offers three years of freedom from winding. The chronograph hand moves smoothly, echoing the valued mechanics of traditional watches.

Guillaume Laidet, CEO of Nivada Grenchen, explains, “By replacing traditional mechanical parts with a battery and quartz, we achieve a slimmer profile without sacrificing precision – all at a competitive price.”

More than just a battery-driven watch, the Chronoking Mecaquartz ‘Salmon Dial’ is a testament to modern watchmaking. Available on pre-order from 12 June 2024, this innovative timepiece is priced at USD 479/EUR 437.95.
