Purnell x Ballon d'Or™ 2022 Unique Piece

Official partner of the Ballon d’Or™ since 2021, the watchmaking maison Purnell is proud to reveal the unique piece that will be awarded to the respective Men’s and Women’s 2022 Ballon d’Or™ winner of the 66th edition on October 17th, 2022.

Creation of Legends

Worldwide, over 4 billion avid fans live and breathe football. Each goal, miss, penalty, high, and low. It is more than a game; it is a way of life.

French magazine France Football established the Ballon d’Or™ award in 1956 with the aim to crown living legends. An international jury of 100 expert journalists, assembled by the magazine, work together each year to choose the best male and female player of the year.

“Football is the most popular sport in the world and the Ballon d’Or™ its most prestigious distinction,” said Maurizio Mazzocchi, CEO of Purnell. “Purnell stands for the best, for the ultimate in the watch industry and could only attach its name to the very best players, the Ballon d’Or™ winners.”

Crowning a New Winner

The Ballon d’Or™ trophy, a literal golden football, has become the ultimate achievement for any football player. Each trophy is unique, just like each laureate, and it is in that spirit of exclusivity that Purnell developed two unique pieces to be awarded to the male and female winner of the Ballon d’Or™.

The 2022 Purnell Ballon d’Or™ Unique Piece is donned in a spectacular 48mm case, with an 18K rose gold football engraved with the Ballon d’Or™ hallmark, encapsulates a flying tourbillon, making a full rotation in 30 seconds.

To commemorate this magical evening, Purnell has collaborated with Estelle Lagarde, professional gouache painter, on an XXL technicolor painting entitled “GLORY TIME”.

Estelle Lagarde

Gouache artist and designer, Estelle LAGARDE elaborates her Haute Joaillerie and Haute Horlogerie gouache designs with minute precision, transforming the colors into true jewels on grey paper.

Passionate about drawing, she has cultivated her creative spirit since a young age. In 2009, during her training in jewelry at the Lycée Professionnel Amblard in Valence, Lagarde discovered her passion: gouache painting. A love story begins. Emotion is the starting point of each creation.

After these 4 years of creative fulfillment, she decides to reorient herself and returns to her first love: painting.

In 2018, the young artist inaugurates her jewelry and watch design studio. But she doesn't stop there! Grateful for the education she was lucky enough to receive, she decided to share her knowledge, and thus founded a training site dedicated to jewelry gouache with her brother, Thibaud: @lagardejewelrydrawing.

Following numerous collaborations with world-renowned jewelry and watchmaking brands, the ambitious designer turned to an even more grandiose project: creating her own brand. Little by little, the foundational bricks were laid, the Lagarde brand no longer a fantasy. It is with this sentence that Estelle immerses us in her universe: “Dreams belong to reality”.
