With this sport chic collection, Speake Marin opens a new creative chapter in the brand’s history. Ripples is Speake Marin’s first ever bracelet watch, and in steel.

As a reference to its British roots, the new case, La City, is inspired by the architecture of London’s eponymous financial district, while the surface of the dial, for which the collection is named, presents a series of twelve horizontal three-dimensional ‘ripples’, reinforcing the architectural style.

With this collection, Speake Marin combines fine watchmaking heritage and contemporary design inspired by modern architecture, with perfect proportions as the guideline.

Creative inspiration

In just one year, from March 2022 until March 2023, the RIPPLES collection was launched and developed with four variations, each as striking and unique as its predecessor. SPEAKE MARIN’s first steel watch with steel bracelet, RIPPLES Black Original, was introduced at Watches & Wonders 2022, followed by the Ripples Gold Anniversary, a precious timepiece crafted in steel and gold to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the brand. Watches & Wonders 2023 witnessed the presentation of not one, but two new variants, the perfect weekender RIPPLES Blue Jeans and the more business-focused RIPPLES Date. With each new creation, SPEAKE MARIN captures a distinctive mood, demonstrating its ability to move forward with innovation and allure.

Today, the Geneva-based brand reveals the Ripples Metallic Green timepiece, with a metallic green dial to bring notions of renewal and serenity to your wrist.

The case: a fundamental componment of any timepiece

The “La City” case, which harmoniously features skilfully blended round and square shapes, was designed by Stéphane Lacroix.

Made of polished/satin-brushed stainless steel, it features a stylish octagonal bezel with rounded, bevelled and polished edges and a protected screw-down crown. The transparent case back with its anti-reflective sapphire crystal is a portal into the heart of the watch, offering a view of the meticulously designed in-house movement.

The case dimensions of the Ripples Metallic Green watch are precisely designed. With a diameter of 40.30 mm and a thickness of just 9.20 mm, these sizes achieve a perfect balance between presence and wearability and are the result of careful engineering.

Our atelier ‘Le Cercle Des Horlogers’ conceived a movement that would allow the creation of a case with the ideal diameter and thickness for a model with a casual-chic style and comfortable on wrists of different sizes. With this in mind, from the very beginning of the project, movement and aesthetics were developed at the same time.

The Ripples Metallic Green has a water resistance up to 5 ATM (50 metres), which guarantees maximum protection against moisture and water-related environments, thus preserving the optimal functioning of its mechanism.

This creation is fitted with a three-link bracelet in polished/satin-finished stainless steel closed by a folding clasp. Thanks to precision engineering and craftsmanship, it integrates perfectly into the case, giving it a stunning visual balance.

The Dial: Metallic Green Elegance

The metallic green hue of the dial is the result of skilled craftsmanship. Achieving this unique green colour for Speake Marin requires a complex and precise process. The dial is made of a rhodium-plated brass plate which allows for different light reflections. It is engraved with hand satin-finish horizontal waves covered with a metallic green PVD coating. Finally, a layer of transparent lacquer is applied. This engraved wave motif creates a dynamic interplay of lights and shadows that enhance the watch’s legibility. The final result is a dial with a unique and distinctive appearance that sets the Ripples collection apart.

The heart-shaped, rhodium-plated central hour and minute hands pay homage to SPEAKE MARIN’s British origins, recalling the hands of the famous Big Ben clock.

The small seconds are placed at 1:30. An unusual positioning and one of the brand’s distinctive signatures, it conceals a mechanical complexity to delight watch enthusiasts and collectors.

More specifically, the structure of the calibre must be adjusted to avoid the time-setting module in order to display the small seconds running in this precise position.

The movement

The Ripples Metallic Green is powered by the in-house self-winding movement, calibre SMA03-T, with fully integrated micro-rotor in tungsten, rhodium-plated Geneva stripes, bridges with hand bevelled, polished edges and inner angles. The decoration on the oscillating mass is unique to SPEAKE MARIN.

The SMA03-T Calibre, comprising 144 components, was developed, assembled and tested at the Speake Marin Swiss-based workshop, “Le Cercle des Horlogers”. Beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, it is equipped with 31 jewels playing a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth functioning and longevity of the movement. When fully wound, if the watch is not worn, the movement continues running for 52 hours, offering excellent timekeeping performance thanks to the expertise of Speake Marin’s highly skilled watchmakers.

The intricacy of the movement is a testament to the brand’s commitment to horological excellence. The Ripples Metallic Green is available from November 16, 2023 in a limited edition of 60 pieces.
