TAG Heuer - Monaco Gulf Special Edition 2017
TAG Heuer released the Monaco Gulf Special Edition, a special edition of the watch worn by Steve McQueen designed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Gulf Racing.
The Heuer Monaco was the first water-resistant automatic chronograph with a square case in the history of Swiss watchmaking. It was launched in 1969 and took its name from the Monaco Formula One race.
Steve McQueen contributed to make the Monaco a watch icon wearing it during the filming of the “Le Mans” movie in 1971.
Like the 1969 original, the Monaco Gulf Special Edition 2017 features the crown on the left and angled chronograph buttons on the right side. The signature square case (39 mm x 39 mm) is made in stainless steel and it is water resistant to 100 meters.
Protected by a beveled domed AR-coated sapphire crystal, the the blue sunray brushed dial is characterized by blue and orange Gulf stripes, date window at 6 o'clock, diamond-polished horizontal hour indices and the inscribed vintage Heuer logo. A small Gulf logo is visible just above the date window.
The movement, visible through a sapphire display back, is the Swiss automatic TAG Heuer Calibre 11 with 59 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 40 hours.
Matched to a blue calf skin leather strap with orange lining and a steel folding clasp, the TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition 2017 (ref. CAW211R.FC6401) will only be available in the United States through the brand’s web site with a price of US$ 5,900. tagheuer.com
