UNIMATIC x Massena LAB Modello Uno U1-SPG "NASA Artemis" Limited Edition
UNIMATIC and Massena LAB join forces to launch the new Modello Uno U1-SPG “NASA Artemis”, a limited-edition wristwatch with a NASA-signed dial, GMT function, and stainless steel case with Cerakote™ coating. With the release of this limited-edition of only 99 pieces, UNIMATIC and Massena LAB honor the legacy of human space exploration while looking squarely to its future.
The spirit of the U1-SPG pays tribute to the pioneering spirit of the NASA Artemis campaign which aims to send the first crewed missions to the Moon since the iconic Apollo missions of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Scheduled for launch in April 2026, the Artemis II mission will mark the first crewed mission in the new Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, a next-generation heavy-lift rocket designed to carry astronauts to the moon and, eventually, Mars. The upcoming crewed moon missions (Artemis II, III, and IV) will venture into the uncharted lunar South Pole region, paving the way for humanity’s first permanent space station on the Moon’s surface.
Artemis, the Greek goddess of the Hunt, is a fitting symbol for NASA’s first crewed Moon missions since the 1970s. After all, according to Greek mythology, Artemis was the twin sister of Apollo, after whom the historic Apollo program was named – the very mission that first brought humankind to the Moon in 1969.
Drawing inspiration from the audacity of the Artemis missions and the courage of its astronauts, the UNIMATIC x Massena LAB U1-SPG captures this same spirit of adventure. Proudly signed “NASA”, its dial is matte black with hour plots, vintage “worm” NASA emblem, and 24-hour track all painted with crisp, beige “Old Radium” Super-LumiNova® for excellent legibility. This same lume is used on the hour, minute, second, and GMT hand as well. Its 60-minute, rotating bezel is also luminous.
Perhaps the most striking feature of the U1-SPG is its bold, burnt orange case, crafted from stainless steel and coated in Cerakote™, inspired by the vibrant hue of the technically advanced SLS rocket used for the Artemis missions. Cerakote™ is a durable, anti-corrosive, ceramic-based coating, ideal for protection against harsh environments, and is widely used in the aerospace industry.
The crown of the U1-SPG and its bezel are coated with deep charcoal Cerakote™, and the watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the interior side. The case of the U1-SPG measures 40mm with a 41.5mm bezel.
On its closed, stainless steel caseback is the engraved emblem of the NASA Artemis program, depicting the letter ‘A’ rising from the Earth to the Moon and all that lies beyond it. Each watch will be individually numbered out of 99. Its quick-release straps are in durable sport nylon, also in burnt orange to match the Cerakote™ case with a stainless steel, Cerakote-coated buckle also in matte, burnt orange.
The Modello Uno U1-SPG is powered by the self-winding Seiko NH34A, with 24 jewels, a frequency of 21,600bph (3Hz), and 42 hours of power reserve.
Elaborating on the inspiration of the collaboration, William Massena, of Massena LAB, added: “When I was growing up, there was an intense obsession with NASA, the launch of its Space Shuttle program, and with the future of space travel. Films like Star Wars dominated popular culture, and we still listened to David Bowie’s Space Oddity on the radio. For me, the U1-SPG pays tribute to that feeling we all had as kids; that the future was full of possibilities and that the promise of technological advancement was almost limitless. To me, that is what NASA is all about.”
Giovanni Moro, co-founder of UNIMATIC, continued: “The use of burnt orange in our design is a direct nod to NASA’s SLS rocket, but the overall aesthetic is a tribute to the bold vision of 1960s retrofuturism. Specifically, the watch is strongly influenced by Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, a film that captures the spirit of future space travel, though it does so through a distinctly 20th-century lens. Throughout the film, Kubrick’s use of clean, geometric lines and minimalism perfectly mirrors the design philosophy we embraced in the design of the U1-SPG.”
Launching on Wednesday, March 12, the U1-SPG “NASA Artemis” (US $1295) is limited to 99 pieces and sold exclusively by Massena LAB at www.massenalab.com.
Each example is presented in a branded UNIMATIC x Massena LAB tough case with an embroidered NASA patch, additional pair of straps, warranty card, and unique ID seal.
