With its eye-catching satellite complication display with wandering hour and lighting fast retrograde minute indicator, the UR-210 is one of the most fascinating timepiece produced by Swiss independent watchmaker Urwerk.

On occasion of SIHH 2018, Urwerk presented the most exclusive model of this line, the UR-210 Black Platinum.

The three-dimensional retrograde minute hand encloses the hour satellite and indicates the time as it transverses the 0-to-60-minute scale which traces an arc of 120°. At the end of the 59th minute, the minute hand returns to its starting point in less than a tenth of a second.

At 1 o'clock we find a traditional power reserve indication while the indicator at 11 o'clock indicates the winding efficiency over the last two hours. If the indicator points to the red zone, there is more usage than generation of energy.

In such case, it is possible to position the winding efficiency selector at the back of the watch to “full” to better match the daily rhythm. The rotor will then convert the slightest movement into stored energy. In the opposite case, the owner can position the efficiency selector to “reduce” to engage an air turbine compressor mounted on ruby bearings which spins and creates internal resistance to slow down or dampen the automatic winding rotor. In “stop” mode, the automatic winding system is disabled completely and requires manual winding. Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the UR-7.10 movement offers a power reserve of 39 hours.

This advanced winding system well reflects the goal of the founders of Urwerk — Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei — of creating watches which is possible to interact with.

The case — dimensions are 53.6 mm x 43.8 mm with a thickness of 17.8 mm — is made of platinum and titanium with black DLC coating. The finishing quality is outstanding and meet the highest standards.

Protected by a sapphire crystal, the dial offers excellent legibility thanks to hours, minutes and markers painted in red Super-LumiNova, except for the green “60”.

Equipped with a black fabric strap, the Urwerk UR-210 Black Platinum is a limited edition of 25 pieces with a price of Swiss Francs 155,000. urwerk.com
