Vulcain Skindiver Chronograph Green & Glacier Blue

A few months ago, Vulcain launched the Chronograph version of the Skindiver Nautique, less known than the famous Diver of the 1960s, but just as charismatic.

An icon from the past resurfaces: The Skindiver Chronograph

In 2023, Vulcain brought back one of its most iconic dive watches, the Skindiver Nautique, a model that left its mark on the horological landscape of the 1960s. But the story didn’t end there. Few knew that at the same time, the Locle-based manufacture had also developed a chronograph version of this tool watch. Sheltered from the public eye for decades, it is now making a comeback, thanks to the research and rediscovery efforts led by Guillaume Laidet, who has been overseeing Vulcain’s collection development since 2022. By bringing this timepiece back from the archives, Vulcain offers collectors a watch that is both authentic and technical, a true homage to the brand’s heritage of exceptional dive watches.

To capture the mountain atmosphere often linked to winter, it adopts two new dial colors: a deep green evoking fir forests and a silver resembling a frozen mountain lake in which glacier-blue subdials are reflected. And since this winter season is short, each of these models is limited to 100 pieces.

The Skindiver Chronograph is powered by a mechanical ETA 7753 movement. It has all the attributes of a sports watch, as evidenced by the highly legible white SuperLuminova® indexes and hands, and the bidirectional fluted bezel with its black ceramic insert. Equipped with a 39.7 mm steel case, it reveals the decorated movement through its open case back.

There is also a decimal scale, which is uncommon. The minute is divided here into 100 hundredths of a second, instead of 60 seconds, to measure and record time in decimal values, making calculations more practical.

The chronograph functions are highlighted with a small seconds subdial at 9 o'clock and a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, which stands out with its red detail for the Ice Blue version or silver for the Green version. As for the tachymeter scale, it emphasizes the sporty character of the watch, while the open case back adds a touch of elegance.
